Remington, Frederic

Frederic Remington depicted the wild American West with accuracy and realism. He roamed the West from Mexico to Canada and from his experience was inspired to make an accurate artistic record of the Old West that was rapidly passing. He traveled with the army during the Indian wars, lived and worked with cowboys on the range, shot antelope and buffalo and lived for a short time with friendly Indians. Remington is best known for his action-filled paintings of the western plains. He created approximately 2,800 paintings and drawings and illustrated 73 books, 13 of which he wrote himself. His paintings, as well as his bronzes, are in many art museums.
